As you can see I did not use a TIP32, instead I used a japanese TO-126 (2SB649) It does fit a little better but I still think a T0-220 package would clear the cover. You'd probably have to drill the holes larger to let the wide part of the leads all the way through and flush the body of the transistor against the board. (I'd prefer a TIP32 being it'll handle 2 Amps as opposed to 1, but this one doesn't seem to be getting too hot. You could probably get away with a TIP30 then.)
