** DEC Note - since the reports have been coming in Gaston County has lost a good ARES member.  Manson Long, WA4TIL (SK) - Manson was a wonderful CW operator and a friend to many in the Gaston and surrounding areas.  Please pray for his wife Ellen, KF4QZR.  It was a shock to all of us who knew him.

Comments: This month saw a lot of ARES activity.  The SARC and ARES groups participated in the Over-The-Mountain Triathlon in Kings Mountain, NC - most participants were there from 7am until around 2pm.  The event coordinator was once again pleased with the operation.

We logged 196 Net Hours between the SARC/ARES and SARC Dstar Nets.  The Sunday night DSTAR net is still seeing consistant check-ins.  The SARC DSTAR repeater site will probably see the tower erected within the next month and hopefully the DSTAR repeater will get to it\\\'s new/permanent home soon.

We logged 22.5 hours with our Monthly ARES meeting.  Craig Morehead with the American Red Cross talked about our role in a deployment with Red Cross.  Very informative talk.

The EC had a 2.5 hour meeting with the Red Cross this month.

3 hours were logged with work on a repeater antenna.

16 hours were logged during a joint fox hunt held in Gaston County.  The winning team consisted of Ben Melvin, KM4C and Todd Vickery, WA4TV (Cleveland County ARES members) and Michael Ledford, AJ4QJ and Ken Ledford, AG4EI (Gaston ARES Members).  Susan Melvin, K4ZXN also was a member of the team, plotting headings from home on a computer from headings called in by those mentioned earlier.  The fox/transmitter was found in 45 minutes.

June should be a busy month as plans for Field Day are underway.  Field Day will be held at Cleveland County Fairgrounds.  All are welcome to join us.

Comments: We have been training on the Winmore System.  We have one station beside myself successfully got set up on HF Winmore.  This station is N4APR Ray Weeks !  We will have two more stations to be added to the list when their sound card interface comes in.

On the Mecklenburg County ARES Training Net, we are training on Emergency Net procedures and will have small exercise nets coming up in the near future.  My goal is to have enough stations on HF Winmore or Winmore Telnet to be able to use the Winmore system in the exercises.  I want to be ready for the Drills that will be coming up later this year.

Things are going Great in Mecklenburg County and I am excited what will take place down the road.
