I began collecting smoking pipes for some reason in 2004.  The first one I ever bought was the Savenelli briar (image 01 below) one day at J.R. Cigar in Selma, North Carolina.  I still collect briar pipes when I find them used at a good price, and if they are oddly shaed and unique.

I ended up buying a meerschaum pipe in 2020-ish that I found at an antique shop and have grown my collection of briar and meerschaum pipes into a collection of 35 or so.  When I began buying meerschaum pipes I bought any I could find in local antique stores and thrift shops.  I no longer mess with meerschaum "apprentice pipes".  Now I only buy meerschaum pipes that are signed by a Master Carver.

I also have several cob pipes.  The cob pipe has a sweet flavor to the smoke that is uique to cob, although they don't withstand burn-out over time like briar and meerschaum pipes do.  I have slacked off my pipe collecting a bit over the years, but normally I'll buy a pipe in a local shop if it's a great deal or if it;s a really unique pipe.

The bottom of the Danish winepipe is filled with red wine.
The smoke bubbles up through the wine, giving the tobacco a sweet fruity flavor.
