The ARRL affiliated club operates the 2 meter W1GLO repeater on 145.130 with antennas located on the Cellular One tower in the Blackburn Industrial Complex in Gloucester. It has an average effective radius of 60 miles, and serves eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Rhode Island, southern New Hampshire, and maritime mobile stations. CAARA also operates the W1GLO repeater on 224.900. The W1RK 443.700 repeater with antennas located in Magnolia is owned and operated by club member Ralph Karcher and is available for club use. The 145.13 and 224.900 repeaters are equipped with autopatches for member's use. Once you have become a member, contact W1RK for autopatch codes.

For packet, club member Bill Poulin sponsors a Callbook Server BBS, WZ1L, on 145.63 in Amesbury MA. and club member Ralph Karcher also operates a NEDA node, CPEAN1, in Gloucester on 145.63. There is also a club packet station with mailbox located at the clubhouse available for member use.

TECHNICAL PROGRAMS

Besides the featured technical speaker at each monthly Member's Meeting, there are a large number of knowledgeable people in the club who can offer advice and assistance on any level. New hams can almost certainly find an answer to most any Amateur Radio question through one of our members.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The club sponsors dinners and other activities for its members and also invites you to Sunday morning coffee from 10 AM until noon at the clubhouse on 6 Stanwood St., Gloucester. It's a great place for chit chat, networking, technical talk, and of course, donuts! Talk in is on 145.13.

CLUB STATION

The Association has its own clubhouse located at 6 Stanwood St. in Gloucester including a permanent HF station with rotating beam as well as a vertical antenna. A 2 meter packet station is also available for use as are 2 meter voice and 220 MHz transceivers. CAARA also maintains its own Disaster Team van used as a mobile net control station during local emergencies on Cape Ann at which the club disaster team might be called out on to aid in emergency communications. The van is also used at Field Day exercises and for Cape Ann road races.

VE EXAMS

Amateur radio exams are held on the second Sunday of each month at 12:00 noon at the CAARA clubhouse. Anyone who is considering a new license or an upgrade, is welcome to test with us. There is no pre-registration necessary. Contact the head of our VE team, Rick Maybury, WZ1B, at 978-283-2278 if you have any questions about monthly testing.

LICENSE CLASSES

License and Morse Code classes are taught depending on demand at least once a year. Call Rick Maybury, WZ1B, at 978-283-2278 for an upcoming class schedule.

FIELD DAY PARTICIPATION

CAARA participates in the annual Field Day activities held each June. All members are encouraged to participate in the preparation and operation of the various club stations during Field Day exercises. Information about Field Day can be found at the monthly member meetings.

MEMBER MEETINGS

Monthly member meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month and Board of Director meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month. Members are also invited to attend the Board meetings if they are interested. Your elected Board of Directors for this year are listed HERE.

THE REPEATER NEWSLETTER

The club puts out a monthly newsletter where timely information on upcoming club activities is posted. Club members are also encouraged to submit articles on any range of Amateur Radio or electronic subjects.

WEEKLY MONDAY NIGHT 2 METER NET

Every Monday night at 7:30pm, the club operates a 2 meter net on 145.130. This is an open and informal net which disseminates club news and prepares operators for emergency communications work. All are invited to check into the net as club membership is not a requirement.
