The
meteor station at KC9S continuously monitors the Average Difference between any received signal to noise to determine if the six meter amateur radio band has enhanced propagation; that is known as a band opening.
If the Average Difference parameter is above the set threshold, it likely means that the video carrier from CHBX in Canada is being received continuously. The CHBX transmitter site is more than 540 miles from the KC9S meteor station (EM59).
Only enhanced propagation on 55.240 MHz can cause this. This also means that enhanced propagation is likely present on the nearby six meter band (50 - 54 MHz). The graph below plots the Average Difference over 24 hours with the red line representing the opening threshold. This all is still in experimental mode.
Based on this information, six meters
is not likely open at grid square EM59 and adjacent grid squares with an Average Difference of
dBFS.
