Linux is an open source operating system that is able to be run on many different hardware types from routers, to microcomputers, to desktops. The following are software packages that I use and recommend:
OpenWebRX and OpenWebRX+ -- Software for decoding and listening to transmissions received via an SDR.
rtl_433 -- Software for decoding sensors (such as tire pressure sensors and weather stations) in the ISM bands.
WeeWX -- Software for archiving records, creating reports, and publishing data to the web from weather stations.
WXtoImg -- Software for decoding and creating images from weather satelite transmissions. There is a Linux version. The software is no longer being updated but the wxtoimgrestored.xyz website is still being maintained as a source for downloads.
Echoes -- Software for recording meteor bursts with an SDR. Meteor counts are tabulated and a report is generated every day if enabled.
SvxLink -- Software for repeater control and access to EchoLink. PropagationMonitor feature announces VHF and UHF band openings over a repeater.
