Selected Linux Software

Linux is an open source operating system that is able to be run on many different hardware types from routers, to microcomputers, to desktops. The following are software packages that I use and recommend:

  • OpenWebRX and OpenWebRX+ -- Software for decoding and listening to transmissions received via an SDR.
  • rtl_433 -- Software for decoding sensors (such as tire pressure sensors and weather stations) in the ISM bands.
  • WeeWX -- Software for archiving records, creating reports, and publishing data to the web from weather stations.
  • WXtoImg -- Software for decoding and creating images from weather satelite transmissions. There is a Linux version. The software is no longer being updated but the wxtoimgrestored.xyz website is still being maintained as a source for downloads.
  • Echoes -- Software for recording meteor bursts with an SDR. Meteor counts are tabulated and a report is generated every day if enabled.
  • SvxLink -- Software for repeater control and access to EchoLink. PropagationMonitor feature announces VHF and UHF band openings over a repeater.
