HF front end for the redesigned DSP-10

Initial design
Basically the design will parallel the current or redesigned DSP-10 RF/IF chain. The RF design will a sort of hybrid design of the Elecraft K2 and the DSP-10. I like certain design aspects of each, but certain things must be changed to integrate the two designs.

For example in the K2, I like the bandpass and lowpass filters being shared between transmit and receive. However, I'd perfer PIN diode switching instead of bulky relays. With the eliptical filters in the K2 this is not possible, so a different filter design would be needed.

From the DSP-10, hopefully I will be able to design the board with the local oscillators such that it just needs to be populated differently for HF operation. I plan to keep the same 19.68Mhz first IF and second IF as close as possible, just to make the software more compatible.

Thus, the HF front end will hopefully only entail a new RF/IF board. I expect that the HF version will consist of at least a filter board and an IF/RF board. However, with any 10 watt or simalar power range PA, I expect a third board will be needed just to allow a better thermal design.

So the bits I will need here are: Lowpass filters for 9 bands

  • Bandpass filters for 9 bands
  • Band switching for each set of filters.
  • RF attenuator (possibly adjustable like the DSP-10)
  • RF amp or two
  • The mixers and crystal filter from the DSP-10
  • Transmit PA in the 5 to 10watt range.
  • T/R switching.
