Along with being an amateur radio operator and Skywarn weather spotter,I was a firefighter/EMT with Springfield Township in Springfield,Ohio.I was in the public safety realm for 30+ years as a firefighter,EMT,REACT member,Emergency Radio Team member,trained dispatcher,and of course amateur radio operator.I have 34+ years of radio communications training,education,and experience.I have learned from some of the best(OSP,Sheriff's Depts.,and various fire/ems/911 centers)as to how their systems work,their procedures used,and such.I got started in 1975,while my father was still on a fire dept.where I live,as a cadet.In 1977 I became a certified Firefighter and EMT by the state of Ohio.I also was involved in REACT as well at one point then and was responsible for helping remove numerous "impaired" drivers from the road by calling the state patrol or sheriff.I have seen a lot over that time.Shootings,fights,stabbings,motor vehicle accidents,2 tornadoes that have hit Xenia(to our south)that I was been involved in helping with,and major fires.I have been complimented at times on the good job I did,but I refuse to take all the credit.It was the members of my "team" as well as myself that made the job the success it was.I joined the Springfield Township dept. in 1989 and enjoyed 16 1/2 wonderful years there under my chief and officers.I loved it!!Some of the fire equipment specs have been used by other depts. for vehicles they ordered to use.We got new state of the art trucks thanks to my fire chief and our officers.Our residents can sleep well at night knowing that if an emergency occurs,they'll be there to help.In August of 2000,I also became a licensed Amateur radio operator.In February 2001,I received my Skywarn training.My next goal??Set up my Packet BBS station and possibly to get on with my training in emergency communications.I am just happy that I have been able to give of myself to others who are less fortunate.I love it.
