We goto Lamesa. We crossed the state border into New Mexico. We drove through the desert. We drove through Carlsbad. We camped at Brantley Lake Statepark. It is just North of Carlsbad. It was the desert. We were at an elevation of 3,100 feet.

seventh day - 5/31/1999 - left at 6:40 local (mountain time) 8:40 eastern

We went to Carlsbad Caverns. We went in the bigroom (went up and down the elevator). We also went through the Natural Entrance. We crossed the state border into Texas. At Carlsbad Caverns it is always 56° in the Caverns. We went to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. At the visitors center there was a slide show and a muesum. We enter El Paso. We cross the state border into New Mexico.

eighth day - 6/1/1999 - left at 8:00 local time (mountain time) 10:00 eastern time

We went to White Sands. The white sand looks like snow. We went on the board walk. The boards on the boardwalk were loose. We went to a solar powered visitor center and muesum. We also visited the regular visitor center. The sand is white because it is gypsum. We crossed the Continental Divid, at 4,500 feet. We did not have to go up a mountain to cross it. We were on a high plateau. We crossed the state boarder into Arizona. We camped at Red Barn in Benson.

ninth day - 6/2/1999 - left at 6:15 local (mountain standard) 9:15 eastern time

We went to Tombstone. There were lots of old buildings. We went to the Cementary. We walked the street of downtown Tombstone.

tenth day - 6/3/1999 - left at 9:20 local (mountain standard time) 12:20 eastern time

We saw a Coyote on the side of the road. We sent up the Salt River Canyon. We drove down then up and then down on a steep winding road. We found an area that had pine trees. We went through some of the Painted Desert. We went to Petrifed forest. It is desert area there but there are not any cactus. We went to the Crystal Forest. We saw a Raven there. We saw the Blue Mesa. We saw ruins of a Pueblo. The rooms and doors were very small. We camped at Flying 'J'.

11th day- 6/4/1999 - left at 6:50 local (mountain standard time) 9:50 eastern time

We start going up the Grand Canyon. We enter Grand Canyon National Park at the South rim. We take a bus tour of the west rim. We toured the visitors center. We took a bus ride to Yaki Point. It was cold and snowing. It was 42º F after the sun came out. We camped at Mather Campground. There were no hookups. We ran the heater.

12th day - 6/5/1999 - left at 6:53 local (mountain time standard) 9:53 eastern

We went along the east rim drive on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We saw the ruins of an Indian Pueblo. We saw many views of the Grand Canyon. We left the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We travled through the Painted Dessert. We came to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We took a 20 mile drive back to the Canyon. We camped at the North Rim Campgrounds.
