Encourage a Teenage Ham Wanabee

Our daughter Carly started showing an interest in ham radio after working on a school project where she had to do research on a family member. She chose her grandfather and started asking him questions about his collection of antique radios. She soon discovered that he was a naval radio operator during W.W.II and had been a ham for many years (W7HLO). She made up the following display board that contained some very old QSL cards, some old straight keys, a crystal radio receiver that she had built and various pictures of her grandfather.

She has said that she would like to get her license and then utilize the vanity call sign program to see if she can get her grandfather's old call sign. Unfortunately the only hams she has met are far older than her. At 16 years of age these things matter. If there are any hams reading this who are either under 20 or know a ham who is, I'd appreciate it if you could drop her some email and either offer up some words of encouragement or let her know a little about what the hobby can be like for a young person. Thanks
