TOUR DE CHESAPEAKE 1998

The morning was beautiful, a perfect spring day.  We left Hayes around 6:30am and set off for Matthews county.  Amy and I were to set up shop at The Poddery, rest stop #3 along the bike route.  The people at The Poddery were as nice as they could be, and we enjoyed working with them.
The first order of business was to get the antenna up for simplex work with the other hams involved in the event.  I used a Ringo Ranger II (ARX2B) mounted on a 35 foot mast atop a 5 foot tripod in the back of  my  truck.  The red dot marks the aproximate top of the antenna.  It is a little hard to see, it was a little hard to see from the ground on site!

Here is a detail shot of the base of the antenna structure, and it shows off our callsigns as well :)  The location could not have been more senic. I am sure that most of the folks who participated enjoyed the stops along the route as much as the ride itself.

The riders came in in droves!  There were times when there had to be 100 people at our rest stop at one  time.
You don't have to be big, or ride a big bike to have fun!
A typical scene at the refreshment table, it was like this all day long.
Live music accompnied the lunch of BBQ and Chicken at Williams Wharf.
