There is renewed interest in starting a D & D game again.
I think that is great! I will start preparing, including setting up a
Topica e-mail list. Eventually I will
change over to listserv running on my local server to avoid some of the
restrictions and commercial spam on the free list reflectors.
The Concept
Let me share my DMing philosophy and style with you.
I am a character development nut. This lends itself well to the concept
we're hatching here. Since we can't physically get together to play
every weekend, I will work on story line during the off weeks. You will
work on character and background. As the characters and story develop I
will edit and transfer them to the web page.
The cycle will resemble this:
Characters are created (do we want to start off with Level 1 characters?)
The world is presented by me (I have written most of my world)
Some mailing back and forth introducing the characters to each other and
giving me a chance to get a feel for the characters so that I can create
an adventure that will challenge them, hopefully without killing them!
Most of the game mechanics during e-mail sessions will be taken care of
by me (the DM). During live RPG sessions players will roll their own dice.
Game Mechanics
I'll get an e-mail from each player (declarations)
stating the characters intended actions. If I need clarification I will
reply back requesting it. Specify limitations and backup plans if you
have them. I will make the dice rolls and return a "mechanical outline"
via e-mail to each of you. You then take the mechanical results and write
a narative from your characters perspective around those results. Submit
that back to me. Once I have all the naratives I'll stitch them together
to form the party story.
I will continue to work on getting the e-mail reflector set up and a proper
website for this.
The e-mail list will be for postings of the party story and for conversation
among the party members. Anything that shows up on the list is considered
to be visible to all (at least all in the party). So I wouldn't post
something to the list like "Jarlaxl sneaks up behind sylvia and picks her
pocket" unless he is making no real effort to do so secretly.
The Web page will contain archives from the list of completed adventures,
artwork, links, character biographical info etc.
I welcome your input on this, so please make suggestions.
In the meantime please email me with
ideas or character stats.
