KB8JXO - The web page
Howdy, I'm John Baum - "The Ohio Map maker" for APRS, or at least I was until four years ago. I all but dropped out of ham radio "sight" for a while. The proverbial burnout, but I am getting slowly fired up again. I am currently a coded tech. with 10 meters, 2 meters and 440 MHz capability, but currently only running APRS on 144.39 MHz.

My Stations:

This is my mini packet station. A 3-Com Palm IIIx,  Pac Comm Handi Packet TNC, and an Icom IC-2SA. The whole package weights about 1 pound and is truly portable. The Palm uses either a simple VT-100 terminal emulation program, or "pocketAPRS" by Mike Musick, as the communication program. I can actually set the Icom to real low power, and by digipeating through my main packet station, be on the air from anywhere in the house, including the throne room. The nice thing about packet radio, your contact can't hear when you flush.
This is the current main station located upstairs. Right now it consists of an Astron 10 amp power supply, Alinco DR-1200 Radio, Pac Comm Tiny-2 TNC and a Radio Shack 1500HP (80886 @ 4.77 MHz) Laptop computer.

    UPDATES ON THE OHIO MAPS:

The last time I checked, I had completed maps of all the counties in Ohio, with the exception of Washington County in the South/Southeast part of Ohio. I am now starting to go through all of the maps and update the symbols to current standards. I have rewritten the Maplist.oh to conform to the current sub directory system used by APRS. It will be a while before I release a new set of maps, but if you want a beta version of what I have, e-mail me at [email protected], and I will email you back a zipped set.
