Telescope
History Page
I’ve wanted a telescope every since I was in high school.
I started my process of telescope buying, selling, and upgrading when
I was 31 years old
My final scopes are :
·
Meade ETX-125
o
My current and probably last upper level (for me) telescope
o
Focal Length of 1900 mm
·
Orion 80mm Short-Tube
o
My current and probably last short Tube Refractor.
o
Focal Length of 400mm
o
Good for astronomical and terrestrial observation.
·
Celestron C65 Spotting Scope (30x-90x)
o
My current cheap throw around spotting scope
o
I can easily throw this in a daypack with a tripod for field work.
Telescopes I have had are:
·
Celestron 80AZ Firstscope –
80mm refractor
o
This was a great scope, I bought it used and it was my first one.
o
When I moved into a studio, it was too big to store
·
Meade ETX-90RA
o
Sold this when I got the ETX-125
o
Though the 125 is bigger, since it came with a carrying case, it
is actually more portable than the 90.
·
Meade ETX-70
o
It is amazing that at 14x you can see Jupiter’s band
·
Hardin Optical TerraHoc – 90mm refractor
o
I missed having a refractor , so I picked this one up
o
When compared to the Celestron 80EQ Firstscope, the Celestron
preformed better.
·
The Hardin had noticeable purple rings around bright objects
·
The Celestron had a much better
diagonal.
·
Celestron 80EQ Firstscope
o
This telescope actually outperformed the Hardin Optical
o
I found this in Craigslist… now I am wishing I did not get rid of
it.
·
Meade 4400 – 6” reflector
o
This was a GREAT scope, just too big to store
in my 1 bedroom condo and hard to haul around
