KB7INO's Mobile Set-Up Information

(a.k.a. Bumble-Bee)

Since I live in a condo, I build up my mobile station a bit.

I call my car Bumble-Bee because it is yellow and it has multiple antennas!

My car usually has 2 radios :

·         Yaesu FT-8900

o   the main radio always in the car

·         A secondary radio.

o   I switch between radios depending on the mood I am in.

o   I have a second NMO mount on my car, so I can easily switch antennas to match the radio.

FRS

FM

·         These give much better range when going from car to car.

o   Great for highway/rural communications.

·         This is probably the longest range FRS you can purchase.

o   500 mW out - the maximum allowed by the FCC.

o   1/4 wavelength non-loaded antenna.

Uniden PC-33

CB

AM

·         Sometime on long trips you want a CB in the car.

·         I got it real cheap at a swap-meet, couldn’t pass it up.
