When I was a kid, I was WOWed by people that had 2 HTs.

I am not a kid anymore… I have a TON of HTs… and I use them all!

·         My favorite non-mini HT.

Radio Shack HTX-200

·         Spare HT I got on Clearance, $80!

·         The stock antenna better than the Standard C508’s

·         There is a local repeater that simulcasts on 6, 2 & 70cm.

o   I am able to use this HT with crossband repeat to access this repeater.

Radio Shack HTX-400

·         Spare HT I got on Clearance, $30!

·         The killer-ap for this radio is for FM-LEOSATs

o   I attach this radio to the boom of a 3 element quad.

o   I can hear the FM-LEOSATs down to ~5 degrees.

Standard C508

·         I wanted a radio that I could crossband with.

o   The stock antenna is OK, I use an Opek 17” antenna.

Kenwood 21AT

·         Spare HT with no CTSSS that I got for $20!!!

·         When you go camping with non-hams what else can you use?

·         I usually carry a few extra in my daypack.

·         I like FRSs because now they are real cheap.

o   If you shop around, you can find them for less than $5 a piece.

o   They make great radios to hand out.

o   I get batteries from the dollar store so that they can be disposable.

MURS

Multi-Use Radio Service

·         This gives you license free 2 meter capability

o   2 Watts maximum

o   External antennas are allowed

·         This still is an underutilized service

o   We used this for my communications at Dayton.

o   We did not utilize PL tones; there was only one other group on!

o   We were free from 2 meter ham interference

Icom IC-2100

Doubles as my Travel Radio

2 meter

·         I can attach to the dash of a rental car via Velcro.

·         I can power it via the 12 Power Socket

·         Much better than using an HT.
