Damascus Emergency Communications Team

Welcome to the Damascus Emergency Communications Team (DECT)



The Damascus Emergency Communications Team is sponsored and operated by the authority of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department.

DECT provides emergency communications support for the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department; as well as, general health and welfare communications for the residents of the greater Damascus Fire District.

DECT meets on the second  Tuesday of every month, starting at 1930 or 7:30 pm.
For Apr. 9, 2024, the meeting is a Zoom meeting, or an in-person meeting. The location of the in-person meeting will be: Damascus United Methodist Church Annex
9700 New Church St., Damascus, MD 20872
The Annex is the house just past the main building as you enter from Woodfield Rd. (route 124).

For the in-person meeting, please remember to abide by Montgomery County requirements regarding wearing a mask.

(meetings are usually at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department in the second floor board room, but NOT this month, NOT in Apr. 2024 - For Apr. 2024, the DECT meeting is a Zoom meeting and also an in-person at the Damascus United Methodist Church Annex at 9700 New Church St. in Damascus.)

First Tuesday Net - All licensed amateur radio operators are invited to participate in our First Tuesday Net, an informal net. Time: 1930 (7:30 pm) Where: Ashton Repeater, 147.000 MHz (negative offset). A 156.7 PL Tone is required to access the repeater. Announcements, comments, and questions are welcome during the net
Also, discussion may switch to 146.430 simplex at the end of the net.

ARRL Field Day 2024 is June 22 - 23, 2024 - ARRL Field Day is always held on the 4th full weekend in June.
The topic for the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club (MARC) meeting held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 7:30 pm was Field Day 2024 Kick Off
This was a Zoom only meeting - no cafeteria in-person meeting this time.

Winter Field Day 2024 was held on January 27th and 28th, i.e. on the last full weekend in January.

Field Day 2023 was on the weekend of June 24 - 25, 2023.
This was our tenth year conducting Field Day with our terrific partners, the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club (MARC)
We were again at the DVFD Activities Ground Pavilion at 10211 Lewis Drive, Damascus, MD 20872
