Many people are starting to ask " Who is RECWA ? "
The answer is quiote simple. RECWA started out three years ago as a SKYWARN group in the Rockaways. Just a few members and a small amount of equipment . But they were dedicated to the idea of SKYWARN . They are also members of the American Red Cross Disaster Services group. And have responded to numerous emergenciesd around the country and in the NY Metro area. These emergencies were weather related for the most part and others disasters of many differnt types
Members of this group responded to over 300 local emergencies between OCT 1998 and Jan 1999 .
Members have worked on weather related disasters in 9 states since
June of 1998 AND WERE ON THE ROAD FOR
3 MONTHS in 1999 because of Mother Nature. They
have a few interesting Videos from Texas and Oklahoma .
So they are aquainted with the dangers of Hurricanes , Floods , Tornados and heavy Rainfall and the need to get the information in the right hands as soon as possible , But first and foremost , they are your friends , your nrighbors , the guy down the block. And if RECWA members don't do it ... WHO WILL " IN HARMS WAY TO KEEP YOU SAFE "
They are also members of the Amateur Radio Community . And operate a TRI STATE Repeater ORG. They are willing to give up their time and experience to help others as most Amateur Radio operators are .
They took another step and volunteered to rebuild the Skywarn station at Brookhaven , Their experience was taken into consideration when Gary Conte of NOAA visted RECWA COM Station at Rockawy Beach New York ,
The layout of the station is simple enough ,
Voice communications desk all modes of Amateur Communications Radios
APRS Gateway 2 meters and 6 meters
We will be adding SSTV to our system as well
Computer desk with Video , Hurrivac and various other reporting capibilities
A vantage point 24 stories in the air on Rockaway Point at the Atlantic Ocean
A view of New Jersey to the south Long Island to the east
Ct to the north and New Jersey and Brooklyn to the west ,
and a good look into New York City.
Members of the RECWA team went out to Brookhaven 2 weeks aga to start to revitalize the Amateur Communications area . The entire system was inspected and all problems were identified and noted. A letter was given to the NWS for review and we are hoping to attain the funds needed to make repairs and updates. Pictures of this event were taken and will be posted in the weather news area in a few days.
As well as the old VHF and UHF station a new APRS station will be put online .Also a new paket station. The UHF and VHF system will be intergrated into a TRI-STATE system. Thus bring all in the South Eeastern Ny AND CT. area together to present a better picture of weather Events as they happen.

MIR and I have been freinds for quite a few years. My first introduction to MIR was with a fellow Ham AB2CJ. We started to work the paket links with MIR with our shiny new Baycom modems. Oh what a thrill the first connect was with my miniture Sat station. That was many years ago. and hundreds of contacts. now our favorite space vechicle will be manned again. With newer and more efficaint Amateur Radio equipment And I am happy to announce my station is now better equipped and a more efficaint sat station.
