ICOM IC-W21A DUAL BAND FM TRANSCEIVER FAQ

This is a work in progress.I'm updating it right now.   This version is dated July 15, 1999.

I acquired an ICOM IC-W21A as my first rig. My serial number is 01163.  This is a dual band (2m/70cm) HT. The instruction manual allowed me to program in repeater offsets and learn about the basic functions of my new HT, but it didn't cover the multi-function modes that I found when using the HT.  I received more information from ICOM but if you have more, please contribute to this FAQ. I could use the help. Thank you.  Peter Grace [email protected]

I haven't had the best of experiences with this HT. It's not Mil-Spec and the power diode keeps blowing for the DC input.
Others have had this experience. Al Nattis wrote a review.

In Easy Mode - Press [S] starts Scan

Multi-Function Mode Functions
Press and Hold [S] and turn the [MAIN] knob to scroll thru these modes. The mode indicator is highlighted at the bottom right of the display. These are the functions I'd like more information about.   Some may be covered in "Tech Talk" published by ICOM. I haven't found this anywhere, but if you know where I can find it or have any information, please email me at  [email protected]

Time Display (hh:mm) - shows the time.
To set the clock in Easy Mode - [FUNC] + [S] for 1 sec. Three beeps indicate clock setting condition.
Rotate [MAIN] to set the hour.
Press [S] to select minutes. Rotate [MAIN] to set the minutes.
Press [FUNC] to set the clock.

SCAN  - starts and stops the scan on the selected Band. If in Memory mode, scan's through Memory channels. If in VFO mode, scans through frequencies (between starting and stopping frequencies set in memory as PA and PB.

DTMF - Touch tone.  Has 4 DTMF memory channels in each band for storing DTMF codes.
To program
While pressing [S], rotate the main dial to DTMF.
To select a memory channel, press [S] and release it. Then rotate [MAIN] to one of the 4 DTMF channels.
