Radio Control
|
One of the things that I like to do with ham radio is to fly my RC airplanes. I have several of these airplanes on the "ham" frequencies. These frequencies are from 50.800 MHz to 50.980 MHz. There are ten channels in this portion of the band set aside for use in Radio Control. There are also eight frequencies between 53.100 MHz and 53.800 MHz. I have only seen the upper frequencies used a few times. I think that the lack of use on those frequencies is due to the possible interference from repeaters but I may be mistaken ( and that wouldn't be the first or last time, hi hi) Currently I have four airplanes in my fleet. They include the Carl Goldberg Tiger II The Hobbico SuperStar .40 Trainer The Great Planes Spectra
The MS Models Combat Zero
Please, don't tell my wife, but I have four or five more kits that are waiting to be started or finished out.
These include the Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk The Carl Goldberg Electra The Carl Goldberg Sophisticated Lady
A second Sophisticated Lady is in the "hanger" waiting to be recovered. I picked this one up at a swap-n-shop for a song but there where a few things that I wanted to work over so that is why it is being recovered. There is also a second Tiger II that I have to finish out. I picked this one up completely framed up. I was in need of an airplane as I had recently "re-kitted" my airplane. This one was picked up for less than the original price of the kit so I made a very good deal on it also. I do have some interesting plans for this airplane. I am in the process of gathering a small camera and the other associated equipment to put an ATV transmitter in this airplane. Keep an eye out for more developments on this project. The radios that I fly are made by Futaba. I currently have a Skysport 6VA and a Conquest 4. The 6VA is six channels and Conquest is four channels. The four most common channels are the elevator, ailerons, rudder and throttle. After the primary four channels, most fliers add retractable landing gear and flaps. One of these days I am planning on putting the trainer on a set of floats. My club, The Shawnee Mission Radio Control Club has at least one float fly each year. It's hard to fly off the lake if it's not frozen over and that is the way it is in May in Kansas. I have a set of floats that I am working on and should be able to finish soon. Stay tuned for pictures of that project.
