About Accessibility

Attending a conference for persons with disABILITIES back in December of 97' in Boston, MA. I was very surprised to see how many people with disABILITIES could access the internet.

I met this wonderful gentleman who was visually impaired who was surfing the web as I usually do! He was using this neat device called JAWS.

Jaws is a device that will allow a visually impaired person to "hear the websites."

I took him to my homepage and he asked if I had any pictures or graphics on it. I said yes.
He then told me that he could visualize them with this reading device if it had some description about them in or near the the picture.

So, I decided that when I returned from the conference I would make my site as well as other's that I design them for more accessible to all.

I am always looking for more ideas or ways to "bring down the barriers" and make things more accessible to all...

One thing anyone can do is to call their local Center's for Independent Living and donate  that old Pentium or higher computer as well as any software/hardware
(tax deductible of course) that would allow many individuals with disABILITIES a way to "access the world" via the internet who are on a fixed income and who are normally homebound. You would be doing a great deal to those without the means to otherwise associate with or make new friends or communicate with services such as social security or disABILITY organizations online!

  Won't you consider helping?

 Thank you!
