| I really began serious HF contesting when stationed at KA7CW (1968-1970). We had a great location and it was the peak of the sun-spot cycle. My equipment consisted of a Yaesu FL-400 transmitter, the matching FR-400 receiver, an FTV-650 transverter, and the first SB-220 linear to be used in Japan (cost new $350.00). We had a TH6DX on top of a 110 foot tower, located 200 feet from the Sea of Japan in Fukuoka Japan. I also used a Yaesu FTdx-100 transceiver and the Yaesu FL-2000 linear.
