K6TPL In THE  1950's

The young man in the above picture is WV6FCY really the transmitter is a Heathkit DX-20 in the middle is the Ar-3 and Qf1 Multiplier which I liked but never ever figured out how to make work. It looked great though! The receiver on the right is a SX-99 that my Mom and Dad bought me out of the Sears Catalog.

The station was in South Gate California. My antenna was a Windom on top my parents house. I'd used Lamp cord to feed it and was feeding it 14 percent from the end think it should have been 14 percent from the center. The amazing thing about this antenna everything was wrong. And the people at the South Gate Radio Club held meetings about it. Bottom line was I replaced it. The Dipole worked and I was happy about that.

I was active in the Civil Defense Program which operated on two meters using a Gonset Commuicator AM 2 Meter Radio. I was Vice President of the Club and use to enjoy Mobil trips that the Club took together and also Mobil hidden Transmitter hunts.

My Mobil was in a 1950 Plymouth and was a Elmac PMR-6A receiver and a Elmac AF54H Transmitter Mobil Radios use to be much larger in the 50's. Here a WV6PRX Clu is showing my Radio in the Car.

The picture is somewhat dark but under the Dash you can see the Radio mounted in the car. We were going on a Mobil Cade to Lancaster. It turned out to be a great trip that day with a group of eight Mobils talking the entire way on 75 Meters. The official Mobil Frequency back then was 3995. Kind of something I wish we could see happen again a freq on each band for Mobil operation. The antenna on the car was a Webster Bandspanner which I still use today.
