HIGH SIERRA INTERNATIONAL RENDEZVOUS '98
SANTA CLARA COUNTY COUNCIL
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
JULY 25 - AUGUST 01, 1998

RENDEZVOUS '98 is a "Mini World Jamboree" hosted by our Santa Clara County Council. This is your chance to experience the World Brotherhood of Scouting, without extensive travel or expense. First, we will spend an exciting and fun-filled week at Camp Hi Sierra, with many special activities. This will be followed by a week of Home Hospitality. Previous International Rendezvous'have been attended by Scouts from Canada, Denmark, England, Estonia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Russia and Tanzania. In 1998, we expect approximately 100 Scouts representing 10-12 nations.
WHAT HAPPENS AT CAMP HI SIERRA?
This will be an exciting "International Awareness-High Adventure Experience", not just another week at summer camp! Before the encampment, our Scouts will be formed into patrols and sub-camps (Troops). Each patrol will be joined by 3-5 foreign Scouts and will work together as a true international unit throughout the encampment. Each sub-camp will have 5-7 nations represented. This structure will give you the opportunity to really meet and know the foreign Scouts. We have exclusive use of Camp Hi Sierra for the week and will emphasize high adventure activities such as Rock-Climbing, Rappelling, Mountain Biking, and Outpost Camps. We will also add an Amateur Radio Station, Internet site, and an "International Faire" - a cultural exchange of food, customs, games and fun. There will be MANY other exciting events and activities based on the international theme. The entire week will follow a "California Mountain Man" theme and we will recreate an authentic encampment of the early 1800's. This will be a truly unique Scouting experience - the chance of a lifetime!

WHAT IS HOME HOSPITALITY?
Home Hospitality is optional, but preference will be given to those who are willing to host an international Scout. During the week at Camp Hi Sierra, you can invite any of the international Scouts to come home with you after camp. Home Hospitality will last from 3-7 days depending on the travel plans of the particular overseas contingent. Your plans need not be elaborate, expensive, nor disrupt your normal family life. Your guest will live as one of your family and the idea is "to do whatever you normally do with a friend".

HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete the attached application and return it to the Santa Clara County Council Service Center at 970 W. Julian, P.O. Box 28547, San Jose, CA 95159. Be certain to have your parents and Unit Leader sign the application. Applications will be accepted on a first come-first served basis, subject to fulfillment of the Participant Eligibility and Requirements for RENDEZVOUS '98.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
The total cost will be approximately $250. This includes all fees and activities at Camp Hi Sierra, round trip transportation to camp, special neckerchiefs and patches, and many other extras. A $50 deposit is required with the completed application. The balance may be paid in 4 installments: $50 each on February 1, March 1, April 1, and May 1. In the event you must withdraw from RENDEZVOUS '98, a partial refund may be available depending on the time and circumstances.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY and REQUIREMENTS
(Applicant must read this carefully before signing the "Participant's Agreement")

  • Be a registered Boy Scout or Explorer who will be at least 13 years and 6 months of age by July 15, 1998, but not have reached your 21st birthday by August 15, 1998.
