Visiting Operators at K6BSA
So you want to operate K6BSA?
All visiting operators are welcome to use the
K6BSA station. If you've
never operated a special event station before, it can be a real experience - like
being at the DX end of a pileup! In order to make the
experience as enjoyable as possible, the following rules have been established:
- You must have a copy of your license with you while operating.
This is an FCC regulation. The K6BSA
shift supervisor must see your license.
- Our International Scouts and
Leaders should arrange for a reciprocal license (if available from their own
government's licensing department). You may check the
list
of countries that have a reciprocal agreement with the USA; if your country
has an agreement with the USA, then you may apply for
your Reciprocal License by
downloading the Form 610-A from the
FCC's website, printing it out (along with instructions), and returning it to the FCC.
Our Radio Chief,
Paul, KM6LH also has copies of the form.
This needs to be mailed to the FCC at least 60 days in
advance of your visit, and you must attach a photocopy of the Amateur Radio
License issued by your country.
- If you do not have a copy of
your license, a staff operator must act as control operator.
- All operators and guests must log the beginning and end of
their operating periods, and sign the log with their name and call.
- You must be checked out by the K6BSA
shift supervisor
on each radio you want to operate before you "solo".
The rigs are on loan to us,
and we must be especially careful.
- Visiting Operators may not change bands. If you want to try another
band, check with the shift supervisor about moving to another operating position
or to have him change antennas if the band you want to try is not in use elsewhere.
Do not change the radio to another band even "just to listen".
- Casual operation by visitors is subject to the following priorities:
Schedules and nets have top priority. Scouts have priority during the day over all
operators, except for skeds and nets. Adult Scouters may operate during the day
after all licensed Scouts have been accommodated. Station Staff may operate
during the day and evening shifts when there are no event Scouts waiting
to operate.
- Skeds by visiting operators must be scheduled with the
K6BSA staff in advance.
- Be sure to ask for your K6BSA QSL card!
We are seeking additional licensed Hams for our Station Staff! If you are a Ham
in Northern California, and are available for all or a portion of the encampment
week, please contact Paul Wesling, at the email address link below.
