We invite your participation in a truly unique Scouting experience! "High Sierra International Rendezvous '98" is an international Jamborette sponsored by the Scouts of the Santa Clara County Council, and sanctioned by national headquarters of the Boy Scouts of America. We request that you share this information with other members of your Scout Association.

Location:
The beautiful San Francisco Bay Area of Northern Califonia. The encampment will be at our established summer camp in the dramatic Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of 5200 feet (1600 meters). We will return to the San Jose area for Home Hospitality.
Dates:
25 July to 01 August 1998. Home Hospitality is available following encampment for a maximum of six (6) days. If necessary, and only by special request, Home Hospitality may be arranged before encampment.
Eligibility:
RENDEZVOUS '98 welcomes both male and female members of your Association including Scouts and Venturers. Minimum age is 14 years and maximum age is 20 years by 15 August 1998. We request that all contingents have approval of their national association. Contingents with female youth should have a female leader over 21 years of age.
Camp Activities:
Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing and Rappeling, Motor Boating, Swimming, Snorkling, Sailing, Canoeing, Hiking, Riflery, Archery, Obstacle Courses, Amateur Radio, Internet, Orienteering, American Indian Dances, Gold Panning, Campfires and much, much more.
Mountain Man Theme:
The encampment will feature a theme of High Sierra Mountain Men -- rugged individuals who explored and settled the mountains of the western United States, and greatly contributed to the history of our Nation. We will recreate both an authentic Mountain Man site and Native American Indian Village of the early 1800's. Scouts will have the opportunity to participate in Black Powder Muzzle Load Rifle, primitive cooking, handicrafts, servival skills, Native American dances and ceremonies, and many other authentic activities and competitions.
Special Activities:
Our High Adventure Team will establish overnight Outpost Camps stressing minimum impact camping and environmental preservation. All nations will participate in an International Faire -- an afternoon of fun, games, native foods and cultural exchange. Amateur Radio Station K6BSA will be operating, with world-band radio contact to countries around the world -- you can use the stations to talk to other radio operators, perhaps even one from your country. We will have an international talent show, campwide games, and many other special events.
Events for Leaders:
Adults leaders will join the RENDEZVOUS '98 staff and participate in all activities. They also will enjoy many special events of their own, including a one-day trip to dramatic Yosemite National Park.
Home Hospitality:
Available after the encampment for a maximum of 6 days. Area attractions include the city of San Francisco; the Pacific Ocean's sandy beaches and dramatic coastline; the beautiful Monterey Peninsula and the world famous communities of Santa Cruz, Pebble Beach and Big Sur; forests of giant Redwood Trees; and much, much more! This is also "Silicon Valley", the heart of the United States electronics and computer industry. We invite you to this great cosmopolitan area rich in natural beauty and diverse attractions. Our Scouts and families promise a truly memorable experience for everyone.
Transportation Arrangments
All contingents will be met at their arrival point of either San Jose International Airport (SJC) or San Franscisco International Airport (SFO). The evening of July 25 will be spent at San Jose State University with special events, entertainment and a barbecue dinner. Breakfast will be provided before departure, by charter bus, for Camp Hi-Sierra on the morning of July 26.
International Contingents:
We expect participation by 12-16 nations. Our prior RENDEZVOUS' have been attended by Scouts from Canada, Denmark, England, Estonia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Nigeria, The Philippines, Russia, South Korea, and Tanzania.
Fee - All Inclusive:
The total fee will be USD $300.00 which includes all food, lodging, camp activities, commemorative neckerchiefs and patches, home hospitality, and ground transportation to and from either San Jose International Airport (SJC) or San Franscisco International Airport (SFO). Santa Clara County Council will provide all camping equipment! you need only your personal kit and sleeping gear! We request an advance deposit of USD $100.00 for each participant. The deposit is not refundable, but may be credited to another contingent member. Payment must be in United States Dollars (USD) payable to "Santa Clara County Council, BSA".
Limited Camp Capacity:
Total participation is limited to 300 scouts and leaders. International scouts will join local patrols and work together throughout the encampment. This structure encourages everyone to meet and fully interact with all others -- a truly unique opportunity for international fellowship and cultural exchange. In order to maintain a balanced international-to-local scout ratio, only 150 spaces are available for international Scouts and Scouters.
Reservations:
Reservations will be accepted on a first-come basis. We will try to accommodate all contingents, either composite or individual, that want to experience Rendezvous '98. We welcome contingents of four (4) to twelve (12) youth members. Larger contingents may be accepted by special request. We recommend that you return THE RESERVATION FORM as soon as possible. Your prompt reply will ensure your participation.
