Contest Comments

This was my first Top Ten finish in a big DX contest!  After a few years of building my station and skills, I’ve finally made the big time!  Woo Hoo!!  While I’d like to believe this was the result of skill, I attribute this milestone more to luck than anything else.  Station improvements also helped, especially the Acom 2000A amplifier that provided a big signal to my antennas.

I came close to pulling off my first full marathon effort, but I succumbed to about two hours of sleep out of the 48 hours.  As I continue to learn a lot of lessons, one lesson that screams results can be summed up in one word, “persistence!”  Stay in the chair as much as humanly possible!  The next opportunity I get, I plan to try the entire 48 hours.  My difficult times come around 5:00 AM local time.  The rate is pretty slow around this time, but falling asleep risks losing some critical European openings.

After the log checking process was completed, I lost a respectable 3.36% of my score from the UBN system.  The final results listed K3PP at #9 out of 209 USA Single-Op Assisted entries.  Wow!  I was excited!

Thanks to everyone for the QSOs!!
