FARC Club News - Summer 2007

Our Meeting Place Has Changed!

Starting with the April 2007 monthly meeting, we will now meet at the Independent Hose Company #1 fire station on Baughmans Lane near Rosemont Ave. See the
Meetings page for directions and a map link. Same day, same time, new location!

FARC Father's Day Hamfest #29 is One for the History Books!

With dry skies and mild temperatures for much of Father's Day, the National Weather Service once again smiled upon our Hamfest, 29th in a continuing series of great Ham Radio get-togethers in the Frederick area!

(Of course, along with fine weather, what really makes a Hamfest memorable is the fortunate combination of eager attendees, quality commercial vendors, tailgaters with great stuff to offer, and a bunch of dedicated volunteers working to make the event happen.)

The four lucky winners of our main drawing prizes have been notified, and will soon take possession of their new Kenwood TS-570S(G) HF+6m DSP+NR1 transceiver as 1st prize; a rugged, high-powered Icom IC-208H dual-band mobile rig as 2nd prize; and two rugged Icom IC-V8 Sport HTs as 3rd and 4th prizes! (Check back after 6/25 or so for photos.)

And once again our vendors KJI Electronics, Cedar City Sales, Quicksilver Radio, Sauder Electronics, HAMfesters and Hambroidery, to mention just a few, came through with the excellent products and services our discriminating attendees have come to expect at the Hamfest!

Bill N3WD plowed through some serious stacks of QSL cards brought for his QSL checking services, helping Hams achieve their quest for ARRL QSO certificates.

And of course the Hamfest would not have been complete without the ARRL VE testing session organized by Phil KE3FL and his team of dedicated VEs. Thanks to you all, and keep up your great work on behalf of our Ham Radio hobby!

If you're interested in joining a great bunch of Volunteers and working to make our 30th(!) as great as or better than this year's #29, please send us an email or stop by a meeting. Besides the work to be done on Hamfest weekend, there's plenty of prep work of all kinds in the months before the event, calling on a range of skills. New volunteers bring fresh ideas and skills, and are always welcome!

If you have any questions, whether on the Hamfest or on our Club, you can call 301-831-5060 any day before 6 PM for answers.

Thanks, and see you again in 2008!
