Day 8

Woke up to an outstanding SW Arizona day. Way back before time began, I was in the Army and stationed at Ft. Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Az. This seemed like a good side trip to drop in and see if I could recognize anything. Talk about a place that has transformed. In 1971 when I was here last, the main road( Fry Blvd.)was a narrow street occupied by several adult entertainment establishments and that was about it. Now its a very clean small city. Very nice. The kind of place you wouldn’t mind living.

I passed right by Cochise Motorsports, the local Yamaha Dealer. I knew that it was a good bet that I could get a cold glass of water and a warm conversation here. I was not wrong. Found out that the owners are Cliff and Darlene Allison. This is a hands on family owned business. Cliff is one of those kinds of people... The instant I saw him I knew I liked him. After hearing of the trip, he immediately said I was crazy. Then I knew he was also a good judge of character too. He introduced me to the parts manager and then took off. I figured he was handing me off and I would never see him again. Not so. He went and got the service manager and any other employees he could find and brought them to met this "crazy Roger". He turned to Jim Reed the service manager and told him to take care of any service needs that I may have.

I did say that Scoot was a little slow to start ONCE and may have lost a little zumma over the last day and a half. Also, the oil in the drive chain had never been changed. So, with 3300 miles under her tires, it seemed like a good idea to change the oil. Jim surmised that the altitude was the cause in the change of performance but he’d check it out. He changed the spark plug and the oil all in about 15 min. while I checked the e-mail.

Then it was off to Tombstone for a little tourist stuff. I can really identify with the legends of the old west. When men were men and the good guys wore white hats.

It took about 30 min. to make the 16 mile ride to Tombstone. (By the way Scoot is back to her old self. Starts in a instant.). I arrived at the OK Coral at 4:45 PM Pensacola time. Something about this place made me think of Luke McCoy. Luke is the local host to the radio talk show in Pensacola. (WCOA 1370 AM). Luke is a good conservative and likes to cruise on his big motorcycle on occasion. I tried to contact him before leaving on the this journey but missed him at the station. Anyway, what the heck, Pensacola Speaks should just be winding down for the day. So I give a call and to my surprise get through on the first call. Well live on the air I pass on the 30 sec version of the trip and invite him to check out the web site. Hellooo Luke....!!

I continue on to end the day in Tucson, AZ
