SNAKING FIRE - April 27 Red Cross Communications
& Post-CHN Ops in Park County
A 2500 Acre Forest Fire in Park County, CO was 50% contained April 27 when I was assigned as a Red Cross Communicator at the Incident Command Center. No homes were lost, thankfully, and a light rain and snow the previous night helped tremendously. This was my first participation in a real Incident Command setup. The operation ranged over about 20 miles up and down US285 near Bailey, Co. After my relief, I went up to the Como PO Box to retrieve many QSLs and worked a few on CHN.
Incident Command at Platte Canyon High School, football field. Meal tent and mess hall. They fed 600+ persons 24/7. Great hot meal service was much appreciated!
