UK/PRT-320/1 a.k.a. PRC-320/1

This radio is a 2-30MHz, 15W CW, USB, LSB and AM manpack from the British Clansman Radio System. It transmits and receives in 1KHz steps. I bought this radio shortly after I caught the green radio bug.
Most PRC-320 are USB only, consistent with military communications. From what I’ve read, the 320/1 was developed for export customers, and not a lot were made. I found this one on a surplus dealer’s webpage in the US a few years ago. When it arrived I learned it had an issue: The warning tone sounded on most frequencies because the PLL failed to lock due to a failed power supply unit. I attempted to replace the transistors myself but only bungled it further. I then bought a working power supply unit from a dealer and installed it. The radio still wouldn’t lock on most frequencies. After appealing to the Clansman-Larkspur Yahoo Group email reflector, I ran into a kind gentleman in London who worked on these while in the British Army. I mailed the radio to him and he resoldered the entire synthesizer section and found several cold solder joints. The radio now works perfectly and is very fun to use. I really like this equipment, but the cost of shipping from the UK makes it hard to collect.
