10 - SPECIAL EVENTS: Our Aug. 05 meeting will be info from the MS Society and the MARS members that organize the amateur operators for the ride. I, for one, am looking forward to working the ride route.
11 - COMMENTS :Reminder.... ARES net  8:30pm on Tues night......... 147.3/pl136.5.  The 443.35 is back up.

Gaston County

10 - SPECIAL EVENTS:
 McGuire Drill August 9th
The McGuire Drill will be held on Tuesday August 9th Start time is unknown. Will need operators for the EOC and Red Cross Possibly the hospital or shelter if enough volunteers we can also use people at home to help. We plan to utilize VHF, HF, packet and APRS

12 – UPCOMING EVENTS:
Saturday August 6, 2005 Bessemer City water tank work
We have picked Saturday August 6, 2005 as the morning to do the work at the water tank in Bessemer City. The work that needs to be done is: Relocate the ARES 444.750 repeater, Switch out the antenna on top of the water tank (This will allow the 444.750 and the back-up 146.805 to operate from the site), Install the new packet node and Attach the 2 meter antenna to the building for the packet node.  The work will begin at 8:00am with breakfast prior.

Day of Caring August, 12, 2005
ARES will once again be providing communications for the United Ways Day of Caring event. The event will be held on Friday August 12, 2005 There will be a meal served that morning and t-shirts will be available to those who volunteer.  We will be providing communications between work sites and officials with the event.  We may have to support more that 1 site, depending on the number of volunteers.  It is not difficult and this is a great way to give back to the community

Next meeting August 25, 2005
The August ARES meeting will be held at the Red Cross building We will have a class by the Red Cross and allow everyone to see where the Radio room is located

September 13, 2005
We will be holding a code class starting September 13, 2005.  This will be an 8 week class held at the new Gaston County Police Dept. located at 420 W. Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia on Tuesdays starting at 7PM.  The class is free and the students will not need any supplies.  For more information please contact Joe Hullender at: [email protected]  
 
August 21, 2005 Shelby Hamfest     
We will set up our ARES tent at the Shelby Hamfest.  This will give us an opportunity for exposure, to promote ARES and Amateur radio and a place to rest and to sell a few items for ARES to add additional funds to our account.

Plans are in place for the McGuire Nuclear Drill.

10 -  SPECIAL EVENTS: EC and AEC’s have been attending the Red Cross “Go For Blood” committee meetings each Thursday this month.
11 - COMMENTS: THIS MONTH:. EC and one AEC have been asked to become full voting members of the Local Emergency Planning Committee which is an arm of the Union County Director of Homeland Security. The NC4UC repeaters are still not linked due to system problems.
