We will set-up at the Red Cross shelter on the evening of the 15th. March 20 The Boy Scout "Merit Badge University" again this year. We will set-up at Gaston Day School from 10am - 4pm. March 27 The Gaston County ARES is participating in The Community Foundations' Run for the Money on Saturday March 27, 2004 at Grier Middle School. This event will allow ARES an opportunity to reach our goal of putting together several Go Boxes. Any contribution that is made to the Community Foundation, on behalf of the Gaston County ARES will be matched by the Foundation. Our EOC will be manned from 0800 march 16th until end of drill. Stanly March 27th March Of Dimes Walk in Albemarle March - Meeting with Emergency Manager of Stanly (Aaron Deese) in March. Union March 15th at 6:00PM ARES members are requested to be at Weddington High School. Our objective will be to establish HF, VHF, and UHF communications and forward any traffic that might be generated by the exercise. March 16th The Union County EOC will probably be activated. March 27, 2004
The Gaston County ARES will be participating in the Gaston County Community
Foundation Run for the Money on March 27, 2004. As a non-profit organization
under 501 (c) 3 we will be able to raise money for our local ARES organization
and for the Community Foundation. This will be a chance for us to educate the
local citizens as to what we do.
February 17, 2004
The Gaston County ARES technician class starting on Feb 17, 2004.
We have 17 students in the class. The instructors, students and mentors are very
excited about the class.
February 21, 2004
Gaston County participated in the area 12 mini field day on
February 21. HF stations were set up from home. We did make contact with Mecklenburg
County ARES on 40 meters.
February 28, 2004
We will be working The Boy Scout "Merit Badge University" again
this year. We will set-up at Gaston Day School from 10am - 4pm. This
will be a great opportunity to expose ham radio to the next generation of
amateur’s radio operators.

We will be taking part in the Catawba Nuclear Drill scheduled for March 15

1. Mecklenburg ARES participated in the mini Field Day exercise on
2/21/04. We had a great turn out of approximately 25 people
total. Several
hams
were able to operate HF SSB for the first time in their ham radio career.
We brought out the Mecklenburg
Amateur Radio Society's RV trailer and setup
3 stations: 80/40m SSB, 20/15m SSB/CW and 2m FM. All equipment was running on
emergency power either with a generator or
batteries. We made contact with Gaston Co. ARES and somone with Stanly Co. ARES who was lost
looking for their site. [:)]
We also made contact
with several other
amateur radio stations around the nation that day and a great time was had by
all
Representatives from Emergency
Management and Salvation Army
were on site for this event.
