Field Day was a big success in Cabarrus Co., due to a FD committee that planned everything from a new location down to the food that was enjoyed Saturday night.

We met the Thurs after FD with an after action meeting.......... the good, the bad and the ugly. Had many notes that we can put to good use for next year.

Good to see our Area DEC Jared, N4JMG stop by.

Union County ARES had a Fantastic 2013 Field Day this year !
We ran all of our radios off of solar power and had a lot of people to stop by to find out what we were doing and learn more about Ham Radio & Emergency Communications. We also made a Youtube Video of our Field Day activity. We also took a lot pictures too. You can see the Youtube Video which I posted on the Union County ARES website. Our website is not up on the North Carolina ARES website yet. I hope it will be soon. You can go to: http://www.unioncountyares.org and go to the navigation bar and click on \\\"Videos\\\". The Youtube video of Field Day is the first one you will see. While you are on the website, click on \\\"Slide Show\\\" to see our Field Day pictures.
I am looking forward to July to meet with some important Union County Officals and let them know how Union County ARES can assist them in case of emergencies, providing emergency communications.

Information on Mission Hospital Winlink is that the equipment has finally been received and installation is awaiting \"internal\" approval. That is expected within a few weeks. A few Public Service events have requested communications support and they are being reviewed to see if/how we could assist them.
Weather Net training session is scheduled for July 18. This will be followed by a meeting with ARES folks attending the Asheville Hamfest on July 27 where
we will solicit support from other areas in the creation of the Western NC Weather net.

Area 15 DEC Report - June 2013

1) Again, the Western Branch ARES meeting will be held on the last Saturday of October ...26th. Mark your calendars, please. The place has yet to be confirmed.... probably the same facility in Morganton.
2) Rutherford County did not submit a report for June.
3) The requested Form 217 for the counties are coming in VERY slowly. I now have Henderson, Macon and Clay. These are important should there ever be a need to compose a Form 205 for an event and you should positively
have one available. The suggestion (from Com-L school) is to keep the data on an Excel spreadsheet which can then be copied and pasted onto the 205. It's important to keep the information on the 217 current ....
when you need it, it's a tad late to update. Finally, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, better go back and review the ICS forms.
4) I did manage to get my HF/VHF/UHF "does everything except D-Star- Go Box" down to Polk County for display last week and had a discussion with the club about ARES and NIMS. The ICS courses seem to stick in everyone's
craw until the reasons they are important are explained. Sometimes it's a hard sell.

As always, thanks for doing what you do.

Larry J. Ford, KG4GPJ attended the NC AUXCOMM Auxiliary Emergency Communications training class sponsored by NC Emergency Management and NC AUXCOMM on June 1 &2 in Raleigh at the EOC. The course, taught by instructors from the FEMA Office of Emergency Communications, including a 20-year veteran of the Tennessee Emergency Management, was very comprehensive. It also showed why having two repeaters that can be drafted into emergency service is a great resource for local EMCOMM.

The 146.955 (KG4GPJ/R) repeater on Rocky Top Mountain, one of the Clay County ARES Repeaters (also listed in the NC AUXCOMM resource database), has been improved by the transfer of a Kenwood TKR-750 repeater unit to that site for greater reliability. The 147.090 (KK4JYN/R) repeater will remain off-line until the Hamtronics REP-200 repeater formerly at the 955 site can be re-crystalled for operation on 147.090/147.690. Therefore, the weekly Clay County ARES Emergency Net has been moved to the 955 repeater.

At the formal monthly meeting on June 12, KG4GPJ gave a presentation on completion and use of the ICS-217A and ICS-205 forms, based on training received at the AEC sessions in Raleigh.

One public service event NC ARES assisted with other amateur radio operators with the Fletcher Flyer Bicycle a 30, 70 and 100-mile rides on June 25, 2013. APRES units were used was used with the Supply & Gear Vehicles (SAG) to give Net Control the ability to dispatch the closest SAG to help a rider.

Apparently, when you depress “Check Responses,” to review the input the program resets the month field. Now that I understand this feature of the program, I will try not to repeat the having the month being incorrect.
