Located west of Morehead City and East of New Bern, Havelock
is also colloquially referred to as "Have-not" by some service
members. Havelock was originally the site of a historic Civil War
battle on March 11th, 1862 known as the Battle of New Bern.
Afterwards, Havelock was a depot stop on the Atlantic & North
Carolina Railroad until Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point was built
in 1940 and made the tiny community relevant.
Today Have-not is the
typical military town with the usual obligatory run-down businesses,
pawn shops, tattoo parlors, bars, and barber shops common to all
military towns.
