A once popular gem on the Crystal Coast in the first half of the 20th century, Atlantic Beach was once a fun, family-oriented "genuine" beach destination that attracted visitors all along the eastern seaboard.   Today the arcades have been torn down, the family entertainment mostly done away with, and the entire beachfront turned into a retirement condo community for rich yankees.  Once a hugely popular shag destination, today the entertainment at Atlantic Beach is mostly dive bars and over-priced restaurants and shops full of baubles with the goal of separating the tourists from their money.
