Subject: Avista BPL - Quick update, nothing critical

To the BPL mailing list, your email address isn’t showing as I have blind carbon-copied you for your privacy.

Happy 2005! May we be able to convince the world that BPL isn’t really worth it… I won’t make it a resolution, but I will resolve to try.

I don’t have much information, but what I do have is a quick update and an “in the near future” meeting with the brass. Avista recently took two trips to different BPL sites, checking out the installations and discussing the engineering and implementation that each of the companies had to go through.  Sounds like the reality of the engineering obstacles discussed may hamper/change the pilot rollout and plan.  I will be meeting in approximately two weeks with Avista to get an update.

Avista wishes to have another meeting with the amateur community, I will try to get that scheduled at this upcoming meeting.

Interestingly enough, a local amateur called Avista and complained that their BPL was affecting their ham radio and TV. I’d just like to remind everyone that Avista doesn’t have any BPL infrastructure in place at this time. Please do find out what interference you currently have, seek the sources, and get that resolved before BPL is implemented. Get a base reading of the frequencies you frequent. Don’t assume you know what’s causing it, research it. If you don’t know how, ask for help. We need to maintain at least a sense of credibility going into this pilot.

Get on the nets and talk, use your radios and have fun! Find some way to participate to keep our hobby/passion alive!

That’s pretty much it for now, thanks for being there. I’ll update this group as soon as I’m given more information.
