Confirming a QSO

Thanks to the Internet, I found an e-mail address of JA6SHL. So, I send an e-mail to confirm our QSO.

I got a reply few days later:

<A reply from JA6SHL>

Dear Mr. Takahashi, Thank you for your mail.
I remembered our QSO since you are only station with Japanese call sign I worked during the contest. I only attended the first day of the contest and you were the last station. After our contact, I continued to call CQ for about 15 minutes. But, nobody called me.
I imagined it must be a 5W station; however, I did not even think that was 20mW. A high school club station in JA5 called me using test oscillator in the past. But, this is by far difficult particularly in distance.
Your correct report was 339 although I sent you a 599 during the contest. It was impossible to listen to it if it was little earlier time.
My equipment was TS-870S and JRL2000F and the antenna was 2 elements full size Yagi up 66ft high.
My location for W6 is not very good since there is a hill toward the direction.
Fortunately, the timing was very good. Noise was quiet, the band was clean and not too many stations were on the band.

Verification of my power

Also, my colleague JS1OYN wrote a message to a contester's mailing list in Japan

A message from JS1OYN

Congraturation on your successful QSO over the Pacific Ocean with 20mW.
I hearby confirm that the output power of 20mW is accurate.
When he (JJ1SLW) visited Japan in February, he used a spectrum analyzer to measure the power level of his PIXIE2. It was 13dBm +/- 1dB.
Although our last name is the same, we are not relative not family. But we are common in making a DXing.
I was amazed that JA6SHl could listen to his signal. Somebody mentioned last year that his listening capability is outstanding. And I am sure that you proof it by extreme QRPp QSO with JJ1SLW.

The truth is much interesting than a story! Isn't it?
