ETHERNET LAN:
HOW CONNECT TWO PC
- SOFTWARE (Part 3) -
MY COMPUTER > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK > CONFIGUTION > TCP/IP PROTOCOL:
IP
ADDRESS: for a LAN are usually used "Class C" address startig for
"192";
common address for small lan are 192.168.1.xx;
Select "IP ADDRESS" and give at PC 1 the address 192.168.1.1 and
to PC 2 the address 192.168.1.2;
As SUBNET MASK give 255.255.255.0 to both PCi;
WINS CONFIGURATION: DISABLE WINS RESOLUTION;
GATEWAY: no gateway;
DNS CONFIGURATION: DISABLE DNS;
NETBIOS: don't touch;
ADVANCED: don't touch;
BINDING: CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK and FILE AND PRINTER SHARING FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK;
Click OK;
MY COMPUTER > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK > CONFIGURATION > NETWORK CARD
DRIVER: Driver NDIS advanced (32 and 16 bit);
BINDING: click on TCP/IP;
ADVANCED: this window is variable (depends from NIC installed); often here you can select the link speed (10-100 Mb or AUTO MODE).
Click OK;
MY COMPUTER > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK > CONFIGURATION > CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK
GENERAL
> OPTION:
Select FAST CONNECTION or CONNECT AND RESTORE NETWORK CONNECTION according
to your usual access to the network;
MY COMPUTER > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK > CONFIGURATION > FILE AND PRINTER SHARING FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK: don't touch.
Click Ok, insert the
original WIN 9x installation CD-Room and reboot;
Now you need to specify
what resource and what printer to share;
Go under MY COMPUTER, right click on the drive or printer you want to share and
select SHARE
click on the preferred SHARE type:
Read only
Read and Write
According to the password;
You can share all the
drive or just a directory or a file;
Make the same on the other PC.
After rebooting it should be possible access to the other PC trought the network.
