Order of Business:

Opening Statement: Chuck Phillips opened the meeting at 10:40 AM and thanked the members of the Alliance’s President’s Committee for prompt attendance. Dave O’Connor agreed to be the secretary and take minutes of the meeting and to send an email reminder to the committee one week ahead of the next meeting and 2 days ahead as well.

April Picnic: The clubs were polled to get a volunteer count for the April 30th picnic. There is 1 member each from TCARA, DBARS, SCATS SRARC and LLUARC. The individual club volunteers will be instructed to convene a meeting among them, before March 25th, to plan the picnic. Details for consideration should include:

Time, date and location (Memorial Park, Upland, April 30th has been the choice to date),

Potluck? , bring your own? or a common menu/group purchased food? ,

funding requirements,

estimated attendance, and

ham equipment needs.

This information should be available for the next Presidents Meeting on March 25th.

PRB-1: A bill, SB1714, was introduced in the California state Senate on February 23rd. Details of SB1714 are available at the ARRL website, as well as on the CA legislative website. In essence, SB1714 will restrict the meddling of individual municipal jurisdictions regarding amateur radio antennas and towers and limit local regulation to health and safety issues. This is an issue and cause that is vital to every amateur radio operator not only in California, but everywhere. The Alliance, IVAARC, has agreed that Barry Geipel, AD6HR, will draft a form letter that will be posted on the IVAARC website and should be downloaded, copied and given to every club member for signature and mailing to their respective Senator.

This is a must; the more letters the better. Members are also urged to contact their California Assemblyman insisting that a complimentary bill be introduced in the Assembly also. There should be no let-up in our joint, mutual and individual efforts to have this legislation passed. If amateur radio operators take a back seat in this issue, non-amateur radio interests will prevail. We must begin to act now and continue to lobby until we get what we want and need.

More Licensees: As an organization and as individual amateur radio operators, each and every one of us should be thinking of ways to bring new blood into amateur radio. The consensus of discussion was that Scouting offers the best avenue with candidates that are in the right age group to help perpetuate our hobby. Chuck Phillips proposes that we organize and begin a campaign that includes an outreach to Scouting.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be on Saturday, March 25th, at a location to be determined. We will be notified by email when a meeting location is determined

Events:  Four events remain in focus for IVAARC: a Spring Picnic, June ARRL VHF QSO Party, ARRL Field Day and a Christmas Party.

Club Call Sign: It was agreed that Barry Geipel should initiate the paperwork to secure a club call sign. Barry will be the Trustee since he is an Extra Class(ic) licensee.

Respectfully submitted,

Dave O’Connor
Vice-Chairman, IVAARC
