My (old ...) IC-756
Here is my IC-756 (1st edition), equipped with a
Kent paddle and the Icom SM-8 microphone. What should I say about this guy?
Probably not the best receiver in terms of intermodulations. Ever so often I
get on 50 MHz the intermodulation of a nearby CB mixed with the signal of the
RAI International which is broadcasted a few kilometers away from where I live.
Also, I believe that the NB could be much more efective: just to stay on the
Icom, I remember the IC-745 level tunable NB which was much better than this
one. I hope the new PRO II has fixed this. The enormous advantage of this transceiver
is the spectrum scope: it helped me several times in pile-ups and on 6m to detect
activity in band. With other transceivers I feel now like blind. Great stuff!!!
Here is a review on the IC-756 by Frank Van Dijk, PA3BFM which has been published on the site of the UK Six Metre Group.
Today I am operating with the last release of the IC756: the 756ProIII HF/50MHz Transceiver.
