The Ellsworth Amateur Wireless Association AND the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency made a great team during Field Day 2013 at the former Navy base in Winter Harbor.
Symposium Featured Ham Radio Technology
Some newer ham radio technology and modes were the focus of the Ellsworth Ham Radio Symposium held April 25, 2015. Presentations included demos using the digital communications suite of programs called Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System (NBEMS), RMS Express, MESH Networking, and the Raspberry Pi computer.
Mike Coulombe KB1UTD demonstrated the valuable and fun NBEMS system including FLdigi and FLmsg. Steve Hansen gave a presentation on Winmor/Winlink and other features of the RMS Express program, including how to send and receive emails over the amateur radio frequencies. Mark Albee N1MEA talked about the value of linking wireless routers together in an amateur radio MESH network, and showed a YouTube video on the topic. Phil N1EP, gave a presentation on the micro-miniature Raspberry Pi and its uses for the home and amateur radio applications.
Daniel Fransiscus, of Calais, won the USB Signalink door prize. He had successfully passed his amateur radio “Technician” license test earlier in the day. Bill Fanazick , of Trenton, won the 50-50 raffle. Bill also earned his ticket at the morning VE session and passed his Technician AND General class exams! Chuck Nevala, of Machiasport also earned his initial ham ticket and passed the General class exam also.
