Program Notes
=============

This software is designed to be used alongside GM1JLP's ACE & COR
servers for WINPACK. Well in fact anyone who uses the DIRC.TXT format
of file.

The copyright of this software remains with G0NUP, however it is
being distributed as SHAREWARE and as such if you find it useful
a small donation for my time and efforts will be most appreciated.
Even a THANKYOU would be appreciated. I am QTHR in callbooks since
1991 or via either my packet or email address below.

************************************
  Special Note for first time users
************************************
   BEFORE YOU RUN THE SOFTWARE FOR THE FIRST TIME
   If you already have a copy of DIRC.TXT then MAKE a backup
   of your copy of DIRC.TXT and store it in a safe place,
   just in case! (See disclaimer at end of file)
************

INSTALLATION
============

Along with this file there should also be three others

   DIRCED.EXE      The executable program
   VBIO.VBX Library routines to run the program
   DIRCED.TXT This file doubles as the helpfile.

DIRCED.EXE & VBIO.VBX & DIRCED.TXT
are to be placed in the root directory for WINPACK, for example
if you have your WINPACK in C:\WINPACK thats where both these
files should be.

RUNNING THE PROGRAM.
====================

Launch the software from whatever platform you are using. It has been
tested under W3.11 & W95 and works on the systems tested.
(to run from WINPAC see not on XTR file at end)

What you see on the screen.
===========================
You will see a window on the screen with the following features.
On the title line will be program name and date, Version number
and author. On the lefthand side of the main screen are three boxes, Drive,
Directory and Files boxes. These boxes are standard windows boxes and show
where you are currently pointing your filing system. During the running of
this software various boxes and command buttons will appear and disappear
depending on your status and actions. On the right of the screen will be
another list box for the file additions to DIRC.TXT.

One or two other boxes will appear during the running of this software.

So what is it all about.
========================
Well GM1JLP's (Ken), server uses the file DIRC.TXT to send a reply
to /REQDIR's & /REQFIL's. Rather than users having to send a subdirectory
as well as a filename all they need to do is send the filename. This is
processed using the DIRC.TXT. ** (See example DIRC.TXT at end of this file.)

The file breaks down into sections based around the subdirectory's of the
software you want to make available for others to request. This means that
you can make available files from anywhere on your system. This DIRC.TXT is
not the same as the output of a REQDIR, in that there are references to
subdirectory's and drives in the DIRC.TXT but not in the processed REQDIR.

In the event that a DIRC.TXT does not exist then a blank record will be
created for use by the system. Contents of this new blank DIRC.TXT
will be &C:\ and can be ignored.

USING DIRCED
============
Select the drive required by using the down arrow on the drive box, select
what drive you want to look at.
Select the subdirectory by Double_Clicking on the required box. Once this
is done you will be offered a selection of files. These are shown on the
left hand files side box. If you already have a DIRC.TXT with the selected
directory already present, then in the righthand list box will appear those
files already chosen or added to the DIRC.TXT.

Adding to the list is simple just double click on the filename you require
in the lefthand files box, this will transfer that filename over to the
list on the righthand side. If the file is already in the list then nothing
will happen.

In the event that you want to add ALL the contents of a subdirectory to the
DIRC.TXT file, then a button has been provided to do just that.
             [ --> ADD ALL -->>> ]

Adding or Viewing text to file
==============================
Clicking on one of these files on the right hand box will show an additional
command button on screen which will allow for Removal of a file from the list.

              [REMOVE Item ->]

Below this command button there will appear a text box. If the file already
has information entered in DIRC.TXT then this will be shown in that text
box. If not then a blank text box for you to enter details will be available.
Cursor will be in that text box. There is also a single fullstop/period in
this text area.

Just above this text box is some text indicating the filename and filesize.
If the filesize is greater than currently set in WINP_ACE.INI (Maxsize) then
there will be an additional comment "No Tx", indicating that is will not be
transmitted by WINP_ACE because it exceeds the maximum size settings. Either
increase the setting in WINP_ACE.INI or leave it off the list. If it is left
on the list the requester will only get a message indicating that it was not
transmitted because of it's size.

If you wish to view a file in the list, the click on the filename and
press the [VIEW FILE->] command button. If the file is and EXE or COM file
it will not be displayed. If the file is greater than 32000 characters length
it will not be displayed. Messages indicating this are shown in message
boxes on the centre of the screen. Later versions will probably allow for
large files.

In the event that you wish to view the existing DIRC.TXT file press the
command button [VIEW DIRCED.TXT] and the file will be displayed on the
screen. It will be the file as it was when you started the program, it
will NOT show any additions or deletions which may have been made to the
DIRC.TXT file.

An additional button [Print] is available to print to printer the DIRC.TXT
file should you want a hard copy. No error checking is in the software
so make sure the printer is on and connected! (Again remember its the
DIRC.TXT that was prior to any changes just made.

On completion of all the entries use the [ EXIT ] button situated at the
bottom right corner of the main window. This will in turn offer you the
choice of Saving all your work (YES), Exit without saving (NO), or not to
exit at all, go back to the program (CANCEL).

If you choose Exit without saving, everything is as it was when you started.
The original DIRC.TXT is left as it was.

If you choose CANCEL, then the program continues where you were before
pressing the [EXIT] button.

If you choose YES, then all your additions and changes are saved to a new
copy of DIRC.TXT.

On some machines it may be a little slow. At this time the software tidy's
up all the temp files it has created. During this reconstruction of the
DIRC.TXT the program will look at each file in the list and add the
'up-to-date' file information (size, date, time). So if you have updated
some of your files on the system then the 'up-to-date' details will be
available in the DIRC.TXT.

In the event that a message is no longer present then a short note of this
will be made in a file called DIRCERR.TXT. This file will continue to grow,
so it is advisable to delete it once in a while.

BACKUP
======

When initiated the program makes a backup of the current DIRC.TXT. This
backup is only valid for a single run i.e. It changes every time you run
DIRCED.EXE. This file stays present all the time as a backup in case of
accidents.

Depending on users response to this program will decide whether any more
development will be done.

Well that's the basics of the program. Enjoy it, it was written as an aid
to GM1JLP's excellent servers, which were in turn written to run under the
well respected G4IDE's WINPACK packet software.

I would appreciate any comments on the software as it stands or any
enhancements which might make it easier to use. Contact methods are at
the end of this file.

Any suggestions for additional addons for WINPACK also appreciated.

Well thank's for looking at DIRCED.EXE and reading the manual, (of sorts),
I hope you now will be able to use and enjoy the software.

DIRCED.XTR  Sample
==================
Create a file called dirced.xtr in the WINPAC root directory. Copy the following
four lines into that file and save it. If WINPAC was running when this file was
created, you will have to restart winpac for it to become visible to WINPAC.

   DIRCED
   $WINP_PATH\DIRCED.EXE
   False
   True

The above file allows DIRCED to be run from the WINPAC drop down FILE menu

ERROR FILES
===========
In the event that you run DIRCED and between the time you ran it previously and
the current time you have deleted some files from your system, then a file called
DIRCERR.TXT will be created.
This file will give you a list of all files and directory's which could not be
found. It is advisable to delete this file once in a while as it is based on
appending each time a file is missing. But if you have a fairly stable set of
files it may never even appear.
