We are located on Ft. Clayton, which is a United States Army Installation on the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal.
The Headquarters building, known as Building 95, overlooks the Miraflores Locks, which are the first set of locks on the Pacific side.
I work just a few buildings away from Building 95 and from my office window, I can watch the ships transit the Canal. This is a picture taken in the Miraflores Locks.
We live in quarters number 502A, which is what is known as a "tropical" house. It is three stories tall with the bottom level functioning as a parking area. Although it sounds like a large house, it is not. Two families live in each tropical, and ours is on the right side of this picture. If you look hard, you may see my 40 meter dipole in the tree!
It only takes about an hour and a half to drive from the Pacific side to the Atlantic side. We have made the trip many times while showing guests the sights in Panama. We often make the trip to Ft. Sherman where one has an excellent view of the Colon side of the canal.
This is a picture of my wife and daughter taken on the barrier marking the entrance to the Colon entrance. Outside this entrance you can see the ships lined up waiting their turn to transit the canal.
