You have some text files dated Oct 1991 for opening xmit bands on TS-850S at
your FTP site, pointed to by the BARC homepage.

The indicated mod is INCORRECT. It may be for earlier TS-850 or wrong from
the start. I expect the former may be correct. The indicated mod says move
diode D11 to the D9 position, then reset the radio processor. This results
in many bad things happening, including antenna tuner malfunctions.

The correct mod, verified from several sources and actually performed on my
TS-850S (c. Sept 1994) is to ONLY cut the lead to the D11 diode, i.e. open
that circuit. This allows xmit over the MARS bands (tested in the 7200,
5120, and 4035 kHz ranges) and indeed probably over the entire 500 kHz - 30
MHz MF-HF bands.

Please remove or augment this mod to indicate that it may not work on all
radios, with suggestion to get the mod from Kenwood direct (a MARS or CAP
license must be FAXed to them). Thanks for the good work and all the other
info you provide.
