Shack - Current 2009

It is interesting to see how my shack has changed over time. I try to keep things as uncluttered as possible but the equipment always seems to end up filling the desk.

Note the dated looking computer equipment and all within the same decade!

I use Logger32 for normal logging and SD for contest logging. The PC uses heat sinks for cooling, so no fan noise.

The current station consist of:

I mainly use an Elecraft K3 or Icom IC-756PROIII with an SPE Expert IK -FA amplifier. This wonderful little amplifier also does the antenna switching and works as a tuner. The SO2R Controller (Top Ten DX Doubler) is used to switch between the rigs. This setup allows me to switch bands in a fraction of a second. Sometimes run an Acom amplifier.

Have a few keys but mostly use the excellent Chevron key.  Chevron Morse Key.

Antennas - nothing too fancy as I only live in a small bungalow with a small garden. The antennas are a home made trap dipole for 40/80m and a Diamond V2000 vertical for 6m/2m and 70cm on a chimney bracket just at 35feet, a ground mounted Butternut HF6 Vertical (6-band covering 80/40/30/20/15 and 10m). Use a two section Strumech tower with a 3-element tribander for 10/15/20m (Cushcraft A3S) and an inverted "L" for 160m.
