PC Building Guide Introduction

A Simple introduction to Desktop PC Building

This Guide is intended for the absolute beginner in PC construction, no previous knowledge will be assumed. Ideal for the person that wondered if they could either build a new system or upgrade their current machine to a much better specification. The answer to both questions is an absolute yes!

You will require a few basic tools

You will require as a bare minimum a couple of Philips screwdrivers for general assembly work. It would also be useful to have an anti-static wrist strap available (You can get around this though) these can be purchased for only a few pounds.

WRIST STRAP

Unless you envisage doing lots of PC servicing type operations, cheap tools will suffice here.
It is more than likely that you will already have these in your current household toolkit collection though :-)

It will also be found most handy to have a couple of pre formatted diskettes at your disposal for placing drivers on, or for making system boot & rescue disks and such like.

Layout of this guide

The guide is presented as a series of "HTML" format pages laid out in a sequence suitable for a beginner to follow from start to finish, you may of course jump around to find the information that you require if certain things are already obvious to you. Always check the What's new section for the latest information on updates and site changes. Where there is a useful tip the following Icon is displayed Points of interest on the page. Where a cautionary note is required an Caution Icon will be displayed.

To download an Acrobat version of each page right click on the Adobe logo and "Save target as...."

You navigate the site site using the links on the lefthand side of the page. You may also navigate by using the Dropdown selection box near the top of each page.

Selecting "Home" will always take you back to this front page.
