TS430S Amtor Modifications ========================== A collection of mods by David GM4JJJ. Before any modifications were done the switching times were:- Rx to TX 12mS to full power O/P. TX to RX 50mS for full audio recovery. After modificaton they were:- Rx to TX 6mS to full power O/P TX to RX 10mS for full audio recovery. Mods done were:- (All on I.F. Board) 1) Change C164 from 0.22uF to 0.01uF (Speeds up RX regulator recovery) 2) Change C60 from 10uF to 4.7uF (Speeds up TX regulator) 3) Change C57 from 0.47uF to 0.1uF (Reduce coupling on O/P of AF amp) 4) Remove C58 0.22uF (reduce effect of squelch on I/P to AF preamp) 5) Change R96 from 100K to 85K (as above) 6) Locate 3 spare contacts on 1MHz band switch 7) Connect middle contact to earth 8) Lift earthy end of C159 and connect N/C contact of switch with length of wire. 9) Connect length of wire between N/O contact and cathode of D45 10) The 1MHz switch now speeds up the AGC for Amtor use. 11) On the Switch board short out B to E of transistor Q5. This stops the RF attenuator from coming on on TX and stops clicking noise from relay. I have seen some other modifications published and have either tried them and found them unsatisfactory or they are implemented in a better way already. Indeed one mod that I was told about actually produced more problems by way of a click from the audio when the Tx came on, which caused the AGC on the modem in the TNC to blank the audio on the following RX block! If you want a narrow filter for Amtor then fit the 500Hz CW filter in the Narrow SSB position and then use the IF shift to get the centre frequency correct. This works very well indeed.
