Modifying the TM-531E for 9600 baud =================================== 1. Audio output from the receiver is brought out without de-emphasis to pin 6 of the microphone socket. 2. Audio input to the Tx PLL can be inserted at the connector to the CTSS tone unit. Remove the two screws securing the top cover, remove top cover and set aside. With the front panel of the radio towards you, lift out the speaker and set it aside to the left of the radio. The CTSS PCB and connector required is just visible underneath and to the left of the speaker mounting cradle. Cut the white and black wires from the end of the connector nearest the front panel. The black wire is ground, the white feeds via C112/R65 on PCB X57-3340-00 A/2 to the output of the mic. amplifier which then goes on to the PLL IC via the deviation control, R3. Not: It is possible to input audio direct to connecto W301 on PCB X57-3340-00 B/2, but this PCB is behind the front panel, which requires (preferably) a special tool to remove the mic. socket locking ring. The black and white wires do go direct to this connector, so there is little point in making more work than is absolutely necessary. 3. The audio cable can be taken out via a slot in the side of the rear heatsink below the 13v8 input cable grommet. Information source: Importer's mod. sheet.
