FT902DM - FC902 - FTV902 faults =============================== INTERMITTENT INCORRECT FREQ DISPLAY : If unit appears to transmit and recieve correctly when this happens then check that the VFO has sufficient o/p level. There is a trimmer in the VFO to adjust this. KEYING FAULTS : The IC used in the auto keyer can cause various faults in this area. 11M RECONVERSION : These rigs were sometimes converted for illegal CB use. This usually involved replacing 28.5-30MHz with 26.5-28MHz. A few rigs are still around in this state, and will require re-converting back to 10 metres. This will require the replacement of the local oscillator crystals, and realignment. Realignment should not be omitted, as the rigs may intermittently fail to operate correctly if it is. The 902 uses two VCOs to cover 28-30MHz. When these units were converted for CB, the wiring selecting which VCO was in operation was changed to ensure that no VCO was covering more than 1MHz. When converting back from CB it is neccessary to ensure the correct VCO is selected for the band in operation. This will entail changing the wires on the VCO unit plug in connector - the four wires concerned are connected to the two VCO select pins via diodes and the operation of these can be checked with a voltmeter. After doing this, change the local osc xtals for the correct types as specified in the manual, and then realign the VCOs. NO RX : If the marker is OK then check the aerial fuse. PA FAULTS : Comments on the FT101ZD TX faults apply to this rig as well, as the PAs are very similar. FLUCTUATING POWER OUTPUT : Check PA valves. Check PA anode choke. INTERMITTENT BLOWING OF THE MAINS FUSE : Suspect that one of the PA valves is flashing over every now and again. LUMPY VFO DRIVE : VFO mechanism as with the 101ZD. INEFFECTIVE NOISE BLANKER : Yaesu published a mod for this, I tried it a couple of times and it makes a bit of a difference. DISPLAY FLASHING ON ONE BAND : Check local osc xtal for that band - check the alignment of the VCO for that band. FC902 ===== SWR METER NOT WORKING : Check diodes in the bridge, they can be replaced with OA91s. FTV901/902 ========== LOW SENSITIVITY : Check RF amp. NO RX : Check mixer and associated components - it's not unknown for people to feed transmit power into the output of this transvertor. (Downloaded from GB7SYP)
